Lakes in and around the Chamonix Valley
Mountain Lakes are amazing and luckily Chamonix has quite a number of lakes that you can hike or trail run towards. Many of them are at considerable altitude and are typically the result of the winter snow melting during the spring and summer. The most visited lakes are on the plateaus above the Chamonix Valley. These will require quite a bit of effort to reach but the trip will definitely be worth it. The most famous lake in Chamonix is probably the Lac Blanc which is quite sizeable and has amazing views and reflections. If you are going to pick one lake to visit during your stay in Chamonix then this is probably your best bet. A very pretty lake is very accessible thanks to the Chamonix lift system, is the Lac Bleu near the Plan de l'Aiguille.
If you are going early or late in the season then there is a chance that the lake is covered by ice and snow which could potentially be dangerous. So we generally recommend only trying to reach these lakes when there is no snow cover. Below you will find the lakes in our database. Click on any of them for pictures, location data and the trails that you can use to visit them.
