The Cabane du Vieux Emosson is a restaurant and a refuge located at the foot of the Vieux Emosson Dam near the border with Switzerland high above Barberine. It has a fantastic location looking out over the big Lac d'Emosson lake and the big dam which are both located below the refuge. You also have excellent views of the mountains beyond. In summer the refuge doubles as a restaurant serving local dishes including cheese fondue, rosti, pancakes, salads, soups and sandwhiches. 

The refuge is open from the start of July until mid September. It has a capacity of 21 people divided over 2 dormitories. There are showers and toilets on location. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag liner. In winter the refuge can be used as shelter with supplies stored on location.

The easiest access to the Cabane du Vieux Emosson is from the main Lac d'Emosson from where its a 4km trail and a 400 meter ascend to the Cabane. In summer you can drive all the way up to Emosson via Finhaut or you can use the Verticalp furnicular and train leaving from Le Chatelard near the border. If you are coming by foot from the direction of Vallorcine then there is a trail via the Refuge de Loriaz and the Col de la Terrasse.
