The Notre Dame du Lac chapel near Servoz is a beautiful little chapel perched on top of a rock formation above the main road. There is an information sign at the bottom of the rock formation telling the story of the chapel. A staircase on the side takes you up to the chapel and there is an information sign on the side providing additional information. The chapel was built in the place of an old oratory in the year 1895. The land where the chapel was built was donated by the Couttet family. You might be wondering where this "Lac" or lake is supposed to be seeing how the chapel seems to be nowhere near a lake. Apparently, there used to be a lake there when rockfall from the Rocher de Fiz above Servoz created a natural dam that created a lake near to where the chapel stands. Subsequent rockfall and movement changed the course and location of the river and the lake no longer exists.

The chapel is located on the Chemin de la Chapelle du Lac east from the Servoz train station. The ruins of the old castle Saint-Michel-du-Lac are very nearby and are easy to combine with a visit to the chapel. We got a great little route that explores both the chapel, the ruins and the hamlet of Vaudagne.
