The Col de Bellachat is a mountain pass between the peaks of the Tete de Bellachat and the Aiguillette de Brevent. The Refuge de Bellachat is a few hundred meters away. There is a swampy lake to the south of the col, facing the Mont Blanc. The main trail running through the Col de Bellachat runs on its eastern side from the Tete de Bellachat and onwards to the Brevent summit. On the western side it runs to the Aiguillette des Houches. There is an unmarked side trail from the Col de Bellachat northwards to the Lac du Brevent. A cairn marks the location of the Col de Bellachat.

Our loop trail from Merlet to the Aiguillette des Houches presents an alternative that passes by the Col de Bellachat. The trail we present follows the ridgeline just south from the Col.
