Cremerie du Glacier

Snack Bar

Very Good

La Crèmerie du Glacier is a small trail restaurant located along the Torent de Lognan, the little river at the bottom of the Glacier d'Argentiere. It is about a 20 walk from Argentiere or 10 minute walk from the Grand Montets lift station. We cannot really call this one a snack bar as it has quite a varied menu with sit down service. It has a large selection of salads, potato dishes, charcuterie (cold cuts), cheese fondues and deserts. The have a nice outside terrace and little play area for the young ones. The Cremerie is open both in the summer for hikers, runners and mountain bikers and in winter time for cross country skiers.

The Cremerie is along a side trail that does not connect to any major trails but it is easy to include it as a detour for the trails that run just east of it like the Petit Balcon Nord. We also have a fantastic little tour of Argentiere and Tre-le-Champ that includes the Cremerie as a stop.

La Crèmerie du Glacier has quite a long history with George Ravenel building a little shack back in 1926 in support of this glacier ice vending business. It has passed through the generations ever since. The name 'Cremerie' comes from the fact that in the early days the cabin would serve mostly milk-based drinks. Have a look at their website for some nice history and pictures.
