This large glacier starts at an altitude of roughly 4300 meters near the Dome du Gouter from it flows down towards the Taconnaz area of Les Houches. It doesnt reach as far down towards the valley floor as the neighboring Glacier des Bossons and its terminus is typically only a few hunderd meters further down from La Jonction where the two glaciers split.
Unlike with the Glacier des Bossons, there are no refuges or buvettes facing the Glacier de Taconnaz and the best up-close views of the glacier are in the later stages of the trail up to La Jonction and of course La Jonction itself.
