The Grande Cascade de Barberine is a nice waterfall located at an altitude of 1324 meters above the tiny hamlet of Barberine on the far north-eastern end of the Vallorcine valley near the border with Switzerland. The waterfall is part of the Torrent de Barberine, a little river which originates at the Emosson Dam. Before the construction of the dam in 1924, the flow of the Torrent de Barberine was much stronger and the waterfall was much bigger. The Torrent de Barberine marks the border between France and Switzerland. Downstream from the Grande Cascade de Barberine you will find the Petite Cascade de Barberine near the hamlet of Barberine. The Torrent de Barberine includings its two waterfalls have become a popular canyoneering destinations.
