This summit is the highest summit in the Giffre Massif and the highest summit in the region outside of the Mont Blanc Massif. It is often referred to as the "Mont Blanc des Dames", or Mont Blanc for the ladies. Don't blame us for that name!
The first known ascend of the Mont Buet summit happened in September 20 , 1770 by the Deluc brothers and they did it from the Sixt side. Later on the easier route via the Berard valley and Vallorcine was completed. If you are staying in Chamonix or at least on the Chamonix side of Mont Buet then there are generally two routes you can follow to the summit. The fastest would be from the Le Buet parking to the Refuge de la Pierre a Berard and from there to the summit and then back the exact same way. In winter this route is also popular for ski touring. The route we present on our website is more interesting but also more challenging and takes you to the summit from the north side by passing by Loriaz and the Cheval Blanc. If you are looking for a spectacular destination that draws a lot less crowds in the peak season, then Mont Buet is a great option for you.
