The Notre Dame de l'Assomption is the main church in the town of Finhaut in Switzerland. The church dates back to 1638 when it was orginally built as a small chapel on the request of the local people after the plague had struck the village and the villagers could no longer bring their dead to the parish of Salvan. In 1652 the chapel was expanded. In 1927 the current church is built with the requirement that parts of the original chapel must be preserved. The work is executed under the architect Fernand Dumas. The bell tower is from the original chapel from the 17th century. From the outside the church seems quite humble but the inside is very detailed and impressive.
Finhaut can be reached by train from Vallorcine. The train to Vallorcine runs through the entire Chamonix Valley starting at Saint-Gervais.
