The Refuge de Nant Borrant is located on the southern end of the Montjoie Valley roughly 1.75km south from the Chapelle Notre Dame de la Gorge. It has a beautiful location on top of a hill overlooking a picturesque scene of open fields dotted with little farm houses with the bigger mountains as a backdrop. Their outdoor terrace is absolutely perfect.
The Refuge offers 5 dormitories with a capacity of 5 to 9 beds each for a total capacity of 35 people. They will provide duvets and pillows but you should bring your own sleeping bag liner which is pretty standard for the refuges in this region. They have 3 showers with hot water. Accommodation comes with dinner and breakfast and they can provide a take-out picnic bag upon request.
The Refuge doubles as a restaurant with meals, snacks and drinks served throughout the day. The menu is typical Savoyard with charchuterie and cheese platters, tartiflette and they also have a Bougnette salad with bougnette being a typical local dish of fried potato fritters. Upon request they can also do a cheese fondue.
The Refuge is open from mid May to the end of September. For the latest information and to see their booking calendar, please visit their website.
The Refuge de Nant Borrant sits on the very popular Tour du Mont Blanc route on stage 2 between Les Contamines and the Col du Bonhomme. We got a nice family friendly discovery tour of the points of interests around the Notre Dame de la Gorge which includes the Reguge and also the nearby waterfalls at the Pont Romain and the Cascade de Combe Noir.
