The Refuge de Plan de Glacier is small high altitude refuge perched on a rock side near the Glacier de Miage. It lies at an altitude of 2860m. The refuge is accessible from the Col de Tricot using the so-called "Smugglers Path". Although I am not sure where those smugglers were heading as its pretty remote and without a clear destination in sight. We got a detailed trail description for a loop trail from Chalets de Miage to Col de Tricot and then to the refuge and back again. Its a rough trail but very beautiful.

The refuge is open in the months of June, July and August. During those months they can also provide meals and snacks for visitors. Visit their very good website for more details and booking information. The refuge is very spartan and small in size with limited electricity and only a dry toilet. Dogs are not allowed. In winter the refuge is unmanned but available to guests seeking shelter.
