Loop

The Montagne de Peclerey is not a common choice for most travelers to the Chamonix Valley. There are no refuges or snackbars serving the area and there are most likely a lot less people, if any, on this trail when compared to the others in the valley. The route is very nice. Starting off at the wonderful little hamlet of Le Planet, perched above the larger town of Argentiere. From there the route takes zigzags you up the Montagne de Peclerey where there is a little balcon which you will traverse to the north side. There is an old ruin here with a sign that says Le Peclerey. From there you will move down the mountain on its north side with some nice views of the Glacier du Tour. You will then travel down to the Petit Balcon Nord and take this path back to start in Le Planet

Trail Directions & Safety Considerations

Risk Considerations for this Trail

Risk Considerations & Difficulty Assessment

This route reaches a height of 2000m. The best time to go will be mid June to the start of October. You will want to check before you go about the snow conditions. This route cannot be undertaken with snow cover as it will be impossible to navigate and its not a very popular route. Navigating the route will not be difficult. Follow the signs for Peclerey and it will be a straight forward zigzag trail to the top. Going down on the other side of the mountain will be equally simple with no alternate routes to take. Because you are likely to be here alone I would recommend having a GPS enabled device with you. The trails itself are quite steep in place and the descend down from Peclerey on the side facing Le Tour is steep and rocky.

Trail Starting Point

Trail Starting Point

The trail starts at Le Planet. You can either park your car there or take the train or bus to Montroc-le-Planet station and walk up to the hamlet of Le Planet from there.

Trail Directions

Trail Directions

Starting at Le Planet take the Petit Balcon Nord path in a southern direction towards Argentiere. You will reach a fork where the right turn takes you down to Argentiere. Pass this by and keep going. From here follow the signs for Peclerey. You will make 2 sharp turns before reaching the steep path with mini zigzags going up to the highest point of the trail. Once there you will traverse in a northern direction. Once you reach the other end there is only one way down. Its quite steep so be careful. Eventually you will reach the Petit Balcon Nord. Take this in a southern direction to get back to Le Planet.
