Prarion Gondola
The Prarion gondola is an 8-seater gondola that runs from the Prarion ground station (1015m) near Lac des Chavants west from the city center of Les Houches to the Prarion mountain station (1847m). There are trails fanning out in all directions from Prarior. You can make you north to the crest summit of Le Prarion (1969m) and onwards to Col de la Forclaz and down towards Servoz. You can also dip down into the Montjoie Valley towards Saint-Gervais. In a south-eastern direction you can descend towards de Col de Voza where you can meet up with the Tramway du Mont Blanc and take it all the way up to the Nid d'Aigle. The mountain station of the Bellevue cable car lies further up the plateau beyond the Col de Voza.
The Prarion ground station has a ticket office where you can buy tickets directly on the same day. Babies below 6 months of age are not allowed to ride the cable car. For exact operating dates, ticket prices and to buy your tickets online, visit the official website.
The Bellevue cable car, which departs nearer to the town center of Les Houches, opened in 1936. Its capacity was not enough to support the demand and so in 1971 the Prarion gondolas was added as a second option for reaching the plateau between the Arve and Montjoie valleys. The current Prarion gondolas dates back to 2006. For a lot more historical and technical information about this lift, you can visit the French Remontee-Mechanique website.
