Waterfalls in and around the Chamonix Valley
Chamonix is a big valley with many high mountains and glaciers and a lot of water that is constantly traveling down the mountains. During the winter all the snow will accumulate at the higher altitudes and then during spring and summer a lot of that snow will make its way down the mountain as it melts. As you make your way around the mountains, you will find smaller cascades and waterfalls all over the place. There are not that many named waterfalls in the Chamonix Valley itself though. The few waterfalls that are named and are listed on our website are absolutely worth visiting. You should try to make them a part of your hiking or trail running adventure. In many cases you can only look at the waterfall and you cannot splash around at the bottom pool. Doing so would also be much too dangerous in most cases. Also take note of the warning signs around most rivers, streams and waterfalls. Flash floods are a real danger in Chamonix with periods of heat or heavy rain capable of setting of a quick and dramatic increase in the rate and volume of water flow.
Below you will find the waterfalls in our database. Click on any of them for pictures, location data and the trails that you can use to visit these waterfalls.
